Måns Lönnroth, Former State Secretary for Environment & Sometime Board Member of Volvo Research & Education Foundations (VREF), Gothenburg, Sweden

Måns Lönnroth has a background in both politics and science. His latest interest concerns urban transport. In his capacity as a member of the board of the VREF, Volvo Research and Educational Foundations he initiated one research program at Harvard University on political leadership in the transformation of urban transport and another program on financing urban access at the Brookings institution. He has been a member of the board of the International Institute of Sustainable Development in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada as well as international vice chairman of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development.

Måns Lönnroth has also been state secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Environment between the years 1994 and 1999 and a political advisor at the Prime Minister’s Office between 1985 and 1991. Between the years 2000 and 2006 he was the managing director of Mistra, a Swedish endowed foundation for strategic environment research.

He was for 15 years an elected member of the Stockholm County Council and has served on the boards of various research councils. He is presently elected member of the standing committee on environment and health at the city of Stockholm and also member of the board of SIWI, Stockholm International Water Institute.

The common element is his interest in the interface between politics, policy and science. He was trained in applied mathematics and graduated from KTH in 1967.
