PhD Research Topic
GIS toolkits for understanding the socio-economic and environmental impacts of Mega Urban Transport Projects (MUTPs)
Background
At the Institute of Archaeology (UCL) I attained a BA in Archaeology in 2002, an MSc in GIS and Spatial Analysis in Archaeology in 2003 before reading for a part-time PhD in GIS and Archaeology (Research topic: Modeling spatio-temporal uncertainty in archaeological surface survey data) whilst undertaking archaeological field projects as a GIS specialist.
Many of the techniques employed to explore socio-economic patterning in an archaeological landscape are wholly relevent to the assessment of potential indicators that reflect the impact of decisions made through the course of a Mega Urban Transport Project. I am interested in creating user-friendly GIS / web-based mapping tools to understand the complex, fuzzy contextual issues surrounding these effects of key decisions, and providing a diverse user-community the opportunity to explore and retrieve spatial data in an illuminating and rewarding environment.
